It's All 'Michigan Made' In Northville This Weekend!

NORTHVILLE (WWJ) - From hot sauce to psychics ... everything "MADE IN MICHIGAN" is on display in Northville this weekend.

It began as a way to help struggling Michigan business owners during the recession in 2008.

Lisa Diggs a consultant from Livonia wanted to find a way to help so she founded the Buy Michigan Now Festival. It has grown to include over 100 home-grown companies.

"It's as simple as looking at one or two products that you buy on a regular basis and try to figure out if there is a Michigan alternative," Diggs told WWJ's Jon Hewett.

Now in its fifth year the festival boasts over 100 Michigan Made vendors.

"It's going to a local restaurant instead of a national chain it's going to a local retailer - even if it's a larger company - like an ACO - they are putting more products on the shelves that are local products and they are employing a lot of people in the state."

Diggs says if every Michigan household spends just $10 dollars a week on a Michigan made product it would add about $38 million weekly to the state's economy.
