Is A Tri-County Cruise In The Future For Region?

MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) - Could a tri-county cruise be in the region's future? Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel sure hopes so.

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel is recommending a tri-county car cruise that would combine the classic auto events currently held on Gratiot  in Macomb County, and on Woodward in Oakland County.

"Not only the economic impact, just the excitment and energy it would bring to this area, if we could figure out how to make it come together. I know that's a while down the road, but the reality is, I think something like that can happen, if we start building on the idea  of how do we become regioinal?", said Hackel.

Hackel suggets a cruise that would combine the classic auto events currently held on Gratiot in Macomb County, and on Woodward in Oakland County.

"We just have to figure out, first here in Macomb county, now that we have a county executive, try to pool all this together and make sure all the people understand how important this could be for us - as an economic impact in Macomb county," said Hackel.

Hackel said the cruise could start on Woodward Avenue in Birmingham and head south to Eight Mile, then turn eastbound and go to Gratiot Avenue in Eastpointe. Cruisers could then go north through Eastpointe, Roseville, Clinton Township, Mount Clemens, and Macomb Township.

Hackel says if a tri-county cruise could be worked out... it could have a big economic impact on the whole region.

There have been no formal discussions on the idea yet.
