I-94 Shut Down For Hours After Garbage Truck Spills Onto Freeway
ALLEN PARK (WWJ) - I-94 Westbound at M-39 in Allen Park has reopened — hours after a semi truck hauling garbage caught fire Tuesday morning.
Crews used industrial equipment to scoop up garbage that had spilled all over the freeway after the fire. Four box cars were loaded up during the laborious cleanup effort. The truck was eventually towed from the scene.
It's not clear what caused the truck to ignite, although the Michigan Department of Transportation. No one was injured.
The freeway was shut down for about seven hours following the incident, but opened before 2:30 p.m.
