I-75 Shut Down This Weekend For M-1 Rail Construction In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - A section of I-75 in downtown Detroit is being shut down for the weekend so crews can work on the M-1 Rail project.

The Michigan Department of Transportation said both directions of I-75 between the Lodge Freeway and I-375 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

The closure will enable construction crews to install bridge beams at Woodward Avenue.

The closure will also allow crews to safely shift the temporary barrier on the ramp from northbound I-75 (Fisher Freeway) to northbound I-75 (Chrysler Freeway) that was damaged in last month's tanker fire -- result in traffic being shifted from the outside to the inside lane.

Traffic Impacts:

• Northbound I-75 will be closed at the I-75/M-10 (Lodge Freeway)/Rosa Parks Boulevard shared ramp. The exit ramps from northbound I-75 to Clark and Livernois avenues will remain open but the entrance ramps will be closed. In addition, the eastbound I-96 and M-10 (Lodge Freeway) ramps to northbound I-75 will be closed.

The detour for northbound I-75 through-traffic is westbound I-96 to eastbound I-94, then northbound I-75. One lane of traffic will remain open from northbound I-75 to M-10 for local traffic.

• Southbound I-75 will be closed between I-375 and M-10 (Lodge Freeway). The ramp from northbound I-375 and southbound M-3 (Gratiot Avenue) will be closed.

The detour for southbound I-75 is westbound I-94 to eastbound I-96, then southbound I-75.

For weekend traffic heading to Comerica Park:

• Southbound I-75 access will be maintained to Mack Avenue, Madison Avenue, Lafayette Boulevard, M-3 (Gratiot Avenue) and southbound I-375.

• Northbound I-75 will have one lane open to southbound M-10. The Grand River Avenue exit ramp will be open for baseball game traffic with signs directing drivers. Expect significant delays.

• The southbound M-10 exits to Grand River, southbound I-75 (to access Trumbull and Michigan avenues), and Bagley and Howard streets will be open.

• Parking west of Woodward Avenue, southbound M-10 is recommended

• Parking east of Woodward Avenue, southbound I-75/I-375 is recommended.
