How To Review a Returned Exam

It's okay to take a breather after completing a tough exam but students should review their tests when their instructors return them.

There are many reasons why students should take another look at the exam; one is to ensure that their grade is correct. The point total may be wrong so look for mistakes in grading.

Another good reason is to see the missed questions and figure out why they were missed. Did the instructor write the exam based on lecture notes or from the text book?

Students should find out the source and concentrate studying from that source for the next exam. They should correct and understand what was missed. This is information that may appear on a later test or final.

Finally, students should analyze the type of question they missed. It helps to review the instructor's style and know next time what to expect. Reviewing the test now puts that information back into their long-term memory. Making the effort now will prepare them for acing the important final exam later!
