DETROIT (WWJ) - There's news out today about some of the more important vehicles that will make their debut at next month's North American International Auto Show.
WWJ AutoBeat reporter Jeff Gilbert reports Honda has just announced that it's going to use the show to debut it's all new Odyssey minivan, promising "a suite of new innovative features."
"The 5th generation 2018 Honda Odyssey has been completely redesigned and will feature new powertrain technology, sophisticated styling" the company added in a release, "making it the ultimate in family-friendly design and packaging" that the company says will compete with a new Chrysler Pacifica unveiled last January and now on the road.
An official teaser sketch of the all-new Odyssey was released Monday, along with four "teaser scribbles" from children of the Ohio-based Odyssey Development Team.
"We wanted to have a bit of fun by sharing some of the drawings from children of the Odyssey team members, since they were inspirational in shaping the family-friendly direction of the all-new Odyssey," said Chad Harrison, chief engineer at Honda R&D America and the development leader of the new Odyssey.
These "scribbles," the company says, represent bold and youthful design, but Honda admits that adopting these futuristic illustrations "as is" from these doodling designers could present a variety of real world challenges, so more testing and validation will be required.
Also Monday morning, General Motors confirmed reports that it will have a new Chevy Traverse at NAIAS. It's also reported they will have a new GMC Terrain small utility, Gilbert said.
Earlier Toyota confirmed the auto show will be the first public showing of an all new Camry.
Fiat Chrysler is not planning an unveil; and Ford is keeping its cards close to its vest about its plans.
