WALLED LAKE (WWJ) - They have a reputation for being pretty tough, but a Metro Detroit high school football will be sporting pink jerseys when they take on a cross-town rival.

The Walled Lake Western Warriors are hosting their 3rd Annual "Warriors for Warriors" Pink Out fundraiser when they play Walled Lake Northern Friday night.

Anyone who's been touched by any form of cancer is welcome at the game and the pre-game parade.

Senior Rick Passino is playing in honor of his mom, who passed away from breast cancer six years ago.

"I think it will be almost kind of bittersweet, because I'm a senior and I'm playing, like, for the team," said Passino, "but it's also I'm playing for my mom and anybody else's mom that has gotten cancer or might at some point."

Passino said response from the community has been fantastic.

"It's for sure a big part of this community, and everybody's really on board with it and really supports it, because it really is a great thing," he said. "I'm happy that we're doing it; I'm happy that it's Western."

Proceeds from the game benefit Komen Race for the Cure, Saint Baldrick's Foundation for Pediatric Cancer and Coaches vs. Cancer.

The even takes place Sept. 20, with the parade beginning at  6:10 p.m.; jersey introductions at 6:55 p.m., and the game at 7:30 p.m.
