HFCC, EAA, WC3D, Focus: HOPE Offer Career, Technical Education

DEARBORN (WWJ) -- Henry Ford Community College, the Education Achievement Authority of Michigan, the Wayne County Community College District and Focus: HOPE have formed the Career and Technical Education partnership, which provides opportunities for high school juniors and seniors in Detroit to receive college credits while completing their high school education requirements.

Students participating in this program will spend one-half of the school day at HFCC's main campus in Dearborn and either the morning or afternoon at their home school. Materials and supplies required for HFCC courses are included. Transportation, breakfast and lunch will be coordinated by the home school of students. Weekly mandatory study sessions will take place at HFCC, which will review and reinforce coursework. Students will also receive progress reports throughout the year.

At the end of this two-year program, students can earn up to 24 college credits. They can then apply these credits toward an HFCC certificate of achievement program or an associate's degree program in the following areas:
• Advanced First Aid and First Responders;
• Business Administration;
• Computers and Networking;
• Criminal Justice;
• Drafting;
• Mechatronic Manufacturing Maintenance;
• Renewable Energy;
• CNC Machining;
• Child Development; and
• Pre-Engineering.

This partnership extends to the following EAA high schools in Detroit: Denby High School; • Henry Ford High School; Mumford High School; Pershing High School; and Southeastern High School.

All programs are tuition-free and recognized by accredited colleges and universities. More than 1,000 slots are available. Job placements partners include Detroit Employment Solutions Corp. and the United States Department of Labor.
