Happy Thanksgiving!

Thousands of people are expected in downtown Detroit Thursday for the annual Thanksgiving traditions, America's Thanksgiving Parade and the Lions football game.

Thanksgiving Day 2010 will also include families gathering for dinner and volunteers spending time feeding those less fortunate.

The parade begins at 9:20 a.m. at Woodward and Mack. The Lions kickoff against the Patriots at 12:30 p.m.

The Salvation Army officers and volunteers will provide a Thanksgiving Day breakfast to thousands of Detroiters in need at Detroit's Masonic Temple. Gloves, hats and socks will be provided, and social workers will also be available to provide help and information to anyone who needs it.

Hartford Memorial Baptist Church located on the Northwest side of Detroit takes a different approach to feeding the hungry on Thanksgiving Day. Volunteers deliver meals to people living on the street.

Grace Centers of Hope is serving up Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings to anyone in need on Friday.

For some, shopping will be on agenda. Some stores, like Kmart, Walmart and Sears are open in hopes of gaining sales ahead of Black Friday, the official kickoff of the holiday shopping season. Click here for more on Black Friday.

Winter-like weather is expected for Thanksgiving Day, Friday and Saturday. Here's the AccuWeather forecast:

Thursday, Thanksgiving Day: Cloudy and breezy with periods of rain. High 49.

Thursday night: Rain through midnight then ending as a bit of snow; lingering clouds, windy and colder late. Watch for icy spots. Low 28.

Friday: Very windy and cold with clouds and a few snow showers. Winds gusting to 40 mph. High 35.

Saturday: Clouds and sun, windy and cold. High again 35.

Sunday: Mostly sunny; not as harsh. High 40.
