Groups Take On Service Projects For 10th Annual Detroit Neighborhoods Day
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Volunteers from over 300 churches, block clubs and community groups are planning to tackle service projects across Detroit.
The 10th Annual ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day will be held Saturday and is designed to improve the quality of life in the city.
More than 120 beautification projects are planned. Organizers say there also will be festivals, back-to-school events with school supply giveaways, and anti-crime marches.
Events will take place in every zip code in Detroit.
ARISE Detroit! Executive Director Luther Keith calls it "an amazing display of pride, work and determination by people who face many challenges and never give up."
ARISE Detroit! is a nonprofit, community mobilization coalition of more than 400 churches, block clubs and businesses.
