GR Manufacturer Adds Medical Device Subsidiary

Grand Rapids-based Action Fabricators announced Monday that it had expanded its medical division by launching a full subsidiary, Laminin Medical Products, which will focus on engineering, manufacturing, assembly and packaging of medical products under contract with the medical device industry.

Laminin, with the help of a Michigan Economic Development Corp. grant through its Economic Development Job Training Program, showcased its new business venture at the Medical Design and Manufacturing Show earlier this month in New York City.

With the introduction of Laminin, Action Fabricators used its more than two decades of experience in manufacturing adhesive-backed products for various industries and its seven years serving the medical industry to uniquely position the company as a leader in contract manufacturing and packaging for medical suppliers.

"With the strong support and relationships Action Fabricators already has in the manufacturing space, Laminin is uniquely poised to gain an early leadership position in the wound care and medical device markets," said Jon Rudolph, president of Action Fabricators. "We see tremendous potential as we continue to grow our presence in the medical market and expect to bring new expertise and new job opportunities to the region. We have made a significant investment in product development, clean-room manufacturing space, and in serving the customized needs of medical suppliers, and believe Laminin will help us accelerate our growth."

Laminin is an FDA-registered company that offers a blend of technology and clean rooms, experience in materials conversion, and more than two decades of collaborative supplier relationships through its parent company, Action Fabricators.

The origin of the name Laminin comes from a protein by the same name found in most cells and organs, which serves the primary function of binding together vital membranes necessary for survival.
