Gathering Outside Sheriff's Offices Brings Message Of Hope

FLINT, Mich. (AP) - A gathering outside the Genesee County sheriff's department offices in Flint offered a message of hope and peace following recent violence involving police in other states.

Sunday's event organized by Bishop Urundi Knox of Ebenezer Ministries in Burton drew more than 100 people, including local pastors, law enforcement members, politicians and other concerned residents reports The Flint Journal.

Knox told the crowd: "It's hard work that creates change. Dreams are like hope; we need both of them in order to see a different tomorrow."

Flint Mayor Karen Weaver said a partnership between residents and law enforcement is needed to change feelings of angst between the groups.

A moment of silence was held for three Baton Rouge, Louisiana, law enforcement officers who were fatally shot earlier in the day.
