Gas prices have jumped over the past week.

AAA Michigan says prices are up five cents per gallon over the past week to a statewide average of $2.83.

The auto club said Monday the statewide average is 18 cents per gallon higher than last year at this time.

The average price of a gallon of gas in Metro Detroit is $2.85. That's roughly 20 cents higher than last year.

Of the cities it surveys, AAA Michigan says the cheapest price for self-serve regular fuel is in the Lansing/E. Lansing area, where it's $2.77 a gallon. The highest average can be found in the Ann Arbor area at $2.88.
