Garden City Library Closes Doors For Last Time

GARDEN CITY (WWJ) - There will be no new chapters for the Garden City Public Library ... that's because Friday afternoon they closed their doors for the last time.

Library Director James Lenze says it is a sad day -- because City Council could have kept the library open -- by levying up to one million dollars.

"The Mayor and Council have chosen not to do that, when they have the power to do that and chose not too, it's a political decision," Lenze told WWJ Newsradio.

"Garden City has run the most efficient library in the state, for a library serving our size community, we have been funded far below any other library serving the same size community ... and that has been for years," said Lenze.
