Funeral For Navy Medic Killed In Afghanistan
NILES (WWJ) - Friends and relatives of a 23-year-old Navy medic from southwest Michigan who was killed in Afghanistan paid their last respects to him at a funeral.
Governor Rick Snyder spoke at Saturday's funeral for Benjamin D. Rast at the Brandywine High School gym in Niles. Snyder called him ``a wonderful example for all of us'' and said the nation owes Rast a debt ``we can never repay.''
The military believes Rast and a Texas soldier may have been killed April 6 by a missile fired from a U.S. drone in Afghanistan's Helmand province.
