Funeral For Fallen Officer Myron Jarrett, Flags At Half-Staff Across The State
DETROIT (WWJ) - Flags at state buildings across the state will be at half-staff Monday in honor of police officer Myron Jarrett who was hit by a van and killed late last month while investigating another accident.
"A family man. Always happy," that's how Detroit police officer Kwame Powell describes 40-year-old Jarrett -- who was killed while in the line of duty.
Powell was one of Jarrett's partners -- their lockers were just down the hall from one another. He says the hardest thing for him when he goes back to work will be the expectation of seeing Jarrett again.
"Coming around that locker room and I peek around the corner and hoping to see him -- and seeing that locker and the fact that he's not going to be there anymore. I think that's one of the hardest things ... that will get me," Powell said chocking back tears.
Police say Jarrett was on duty at 10:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at Monica and Puritan assisting other officers in an investigation of two cars that were involved in an accident.
Steven Guzina, 54, of Lincoln Park has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal car crash that killed Jarrett.
"All around - just a good guy - and it's crazy because I believe that if you ask any one, anyone in the department person who knew him they would all say the same thing - I don't think one person, even behind his back, could say one bad thing about him," said Powell.
Jarrett's former partner call him a dedicated husband -- who always looked forward to being with his family.
Jarrett's funeral takes place at noon at Second Ebenezer Church on Dequindre. Anyone can contribute to his family expenses HERE.
