Freedom Center At Metro Airport Marks Holiday - Hosting 2,500 To Date
DETROIT (WWJ) - Over 2,500 service men and woman have been welcomed into the Freedom Center upon their arrival at Detroit Metropolitian Airport since its opening on Veterans Day.
Freedom Center, the new military lounge at Metro Airport, has hosted thousands of members of the Armed Forces and their dependents.
A Freedom Center spokesman tells WWJ that the traveling Armed Forces are assisted at the lounge in the McNamara terminal.
"Thanks to our great team of volunteers and the financial support of area corporations and private citizens, Freedom Center is providing much needed and deserved support to our men and women in uniform and their families." said Ken Pratt, president of Michigan Armed Forces Hospitality Center, Inc., the non-profit organization which established Freedom Center.
"We provide a warm welcome, a comfortable lounge area, free WiFi, hot and cold beverages, as well as invaluable personal assistance when needed."
The Freedom Center is open from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. but extends hours as needed for stranded troops or overseas flights that may be delayed.
Located in the McNamara Terminal, the Freedom Center serves members of the Armed Forces and their dependents and is open to veterans as well.
"Since opening our doors, the support from the community has been outstanding," Pratt said.
