Fraser Man Allegedly Tries To Run Over Cat At Meijer
WOODHAVEN (CBS Detroit) A 20-year-old Fraser man has been charged with felony animal torture after witnesses said he was spotted throwing a cat under a car Thursday and trying to run it over.
Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy charged Justin Samuel Coppola with animal killing /torturing, a two-year felony, animal cruelty and reckless driving -- both 93 day misdemeanors.
The cat's condition was unknown, officers were unable to find it.
Police said Coppola was observed in the parking lot of the Woodhaven Meijer Store at Allen and West roads throwing a cat under his car and attempting to run it over.
"It is further alleged that he drove at a high rate of speed and was observed to throw the cat from the car," Worthy said in a press release.
Witnesses called police and the man was arrested.
The defendant is expected to be arraigned Friday afternoon in 33rd District Court.
