Former Pistons Player Behagen Sentenced
ATLANTA (AP) — Former NBA player Ronald Behagen got three years' probation after pleading guilty to stealing money from a 68-year-old woman who suffers from Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's and dementia.
The Fulton County district attorney's office in Atlanta says the 60-year-old got the victim's ATM card from his friend Valla Rider, who was a caretaker for the victim.
Both Behagen and Rider pleaded guilty to financial transaction card fraud and were sentenced to probation and ordered to pay restitution.
Prosecutors say Behagen used the card to withdraw a total of $7,140 from the woman's account in 40 transactions between April and June 2011.
Behagen played seven seasons as a member of the Atlanta Hawks, Kansas City Kings, New Orleans Jazz, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks and Washington Bullets.
