Flag Lowering Ordered In Honor Of Airman Killed In Crash

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Gov. Rick Snyder has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags to be lowered to half-staff within the State Capitol Complex and on all state buildings in honor of a southwestern Michigan airman killed in a helicopter crash in Kabul, Afghanistan.

The flag-lowering is ordered for Monday for 38-year-old Master Sgt. Gregory Kuhse of Kalamazoo. He died Oct. 11 and his funeral was held Saturday in Kalamazoo.

The governor's office says he was a 1995 graduate of Comstock High School and enlisted in the Air Force in 1996.

Snyder says in a statement "Kuhse died honorably defending his country and our state, and we should always be mindful of that ultimate sacrifice and grateful for his selfless service."

Four others aboard the helicopter also were killed and five others hurt.
