Fire reported at scrap yard in Southwest Detroit
Detroit Fire Department were called to the scene of a scrap yard fire in Southwest Detroit early Wednesday.
The fire was near the intersection of Lonyo Street and Dix Street.
No injuries were reported upon the initial response. But fire crews were expected to remain on scene for several hours.
Because of the wind direction during the day, the Dearborn Fire Department said residents of other Wayne County communities such as Dearborn, Allen Park and Melvindale were noticing a "burning odor." The Detroit Fire Department's hazardous materials unit found no air quality issues upon its investigation. The Wayne County Public Health Department is also closely monitoring the situation, Dearborn officials said.
