Fire damages storage unit building in Rochester Hills

Over 50 firefighters were called to the scene of a storage facility fire early Wednesday in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

The call reporting the fire was made shortly before 6 a.m., sending crews to Sto-Away Self-Storage on John R. Road near Avon Road. At one point, more than 50 first responders were on scene. Those called to assist the Rochester Hills Fire Department included crews from Oakland County, Troy Police, Troy Fire and the American Red Cross.

There were no injuries, but the fire caused significant damage to a main building at the facility, Sto-Away officials said later in the day.

"That being said, our facility grounds and main office is closed to the public until we're given the clear to enter for safety purposes," the company said. "We are working hard with investigation teams and our insurance company to ensure we can provide answers and next steps to all who are impacted. ... From our family to yours, we ask for prayers and positive thoughts as we navigate this difficult situation."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
