Final Sunday Mass Celebrated At Corpus Christi Parish

DETROIT (WWJ) - A final Mass was held Sunday morning at the IHM Center of Corpus Christi Parish.

The former Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Detroit's northwest side is being sold along with the school building.

Reverend Donald Archambault spoke with WWJ about the merging of the parishes.

The Parish merged with St. Gerard in 2005, though the other property renamed the IHM Center held Mass there once a week.

Now it's being sold to a charter school that has been renting the school building.

"Merging parishes is not a lot different emotionally then blending families and when blending families it's easier for some people in the family to blend then others. I think it has to be with sensitivity and care to as many people as possible - and that's why we went through a five year process," said Archambault.

Rev. Archambault says Immaculate Heart of Mary was founded in 1948.
