Syma Style: Fashion Designer Creates Edgy Bollywood-Inspired Clothing

On Friday November 11, I attended a fashion show and modeling contest at the Hotel Pennsylvania in Manhattan.  I was one of several judges.  On the red carpet with me, my buddy and international fashion designer Samina Mughal.

Samina is a wonderful friend, very creative designer, amazing mother and wife.  I can go on and on about her!  She has had a passion for fashion from a very young age.

Born and raised in England, Samina attended The Institute of Art & Design in Birmingham.  She worked with several other designers, while honing her own skills.  She even made her own wedding gown from scratch.  She is so talented!  It is amazing to see such creations made by her own two hands and a sewing machine!

We met when I was in college in Philadelphia.  She was looking for models to strut her clothes for local fashion shows.  I was looking for something to do to keep myself busy and get more practice for on-stage presentation.

After I graduated, we lost touch for a bit.  That's until she moved near my parents' home.  My family nor Samina knew that there is a one-degree seperation between them: me!  As they started talking, my mother described me and Samina put two-and-two together are realized who she was talking about.  Now our families have been close friends for years, spending holidays and birthdays together.

Over the weekend, Samina's latest and best outfits hit the runway with models competing for prizes and amazing opportunities. 

It was nice to see up-and-coming designers show off their line.  Each one was so unique and had a different take on mixing Indian designs with high fashion couture styles.  I cannot say enough how great and talented Samina Mughal is.  It seems as if I am bias, but even if I didn't know her, I would wear her clothes!
