Family Awaits Answers After 14-Year-Old Boy Dies At School

YPSILANTI (AP) - A 14-year-old boy's family is awaiting answers from investigators following his death at a southeastern Michigan school.

Police and school officials said a Washtenaw International Middle Academy student died Wednesday afternoon at the Ypsilanti school. They didn't identify him or release details of what happened, but his mother identified him to The Ann Arbor News as Xavier Small.

Ypsilanti police responded following a report that someone had fallen and the boy was found near the northwest corner of the school with head trauma. The school went into a lockdown while police investigated and police found no sign of foul play.

Claudia Small says her son had a love of parkour, an extreme sport that combines elements from martial arts, gymnastics and rock climbing.

WXYZ-TV reports autopsy results are pending.
