FAA: Detroit Metro Airport To Benefit From New Traffic Control
ROMULUS (WWJ/AP) - The Federal Aviation Administration says Detroit Metropolitan Airport is among those expected to benefit from a new air traffic control system that's being developed.
FAA officials on Wednesday made a presentation about the Next Generation Air Transportation System, or NextGen, to the Wayne County Airport Authority, which runs the airport in Romulus. It's part of a nationwide effort to streamline air traffic control and reduce delays.
Barry Cooper, regional administrator of the FAA's Great Lakes Region, said after the presentation that it represents "a total conversion of our current system of ground-based navigation and communication facilities and radar systems to satellite technology."
Cooper told The Detroit News that FAA is taking advantage of the "complex airspace around Detroit" to "reshape the air corridors."
