Extending The Reach Of The North American International Auto Show

The 2012 North American International Auto Show is becoming more social than ever. That's social, in terms of social media—with a particular influence on Twitter and Facebook.

"In a world where Facebook is becoming a source of communication, we think it's important for people to find exactly what it is that they are looking for," says Buck Wise, who heads the auto show's social media team, and is also social media director for CBS Detroit.

Auto Show Reaching Out In New Ways

Auto Show Using More Social Media

Organizers of the auto show decided that the world was moving more into social media, so they had to stake their claim. The show's social media team will tweet out information during the press and industry preview days, as well as the public days of the show.

They will be sending out their own updates, and re-tweeting information from media and industry sources.

"We're actually going to right on the show floor," says Wise. "We don't want to just want to be a bunch of social people behind a computer not being social. We want to get right down into the action so we can feel the vibe of what the attitudes are on the show floor."

It's become very easy to "like" the auto show on Facebook, with the web site likeautoshow.com. To follow the show on Twitter, look for @NAIASDetroit.

If you are on Twitter, and want to join the conversation about the auto show, or tweet a photo during public days, make sure to use the hash-tag #NAIAS.

"We definitely are going to be watching those," said Wise. "We have a tweet screen we have set up. So, not only are we watching them, but you will be watching them on the show floor."

Press previews for the North American International Auto Show begin on Monday, January 9th, followed by Industry Previews on the 11th and 12th. The Charity Preview is Friday evening, January 13th.

The show opens to the public on Saturday, January 14th.
