Eric Thomas: Lions Finding Ways To .... Win?

I understand that the Lions were just the latest team to mount a second half comeback against the Vikings. But I am not used to seeing this. The Lions were dreadful in the first half of the game. The bar I was at let out a gasp when Stafford was hit usually reserved for international tragedies. Most of the assembled tables watched the game through their fingers. I felt the same way. "Back to reality.." my inner exasperated Lions fan said. I was shocked to find out that the Lions are actually allowed to win in OT. I thought that's why Marty took the wind.

This was the win we were hoping for. #9 was battered and bruised. Jeff Backus just about gave the game away with a safety. The running game was putrid and pointless. These combined factors, and they won. Honolulu blue won a couple of "gut it out" games last year, but it makes it far more sweet when the "gut it out" win takes you to 3-0.

Can we stop with the stupid 2007 comparisons now? Yes the Lions actually won games in 2007, but those wins were against bad teams with bad players. No one, NOT ONE of the slappiest slappies that ever slapped ever believed Jon Kitna was the answer at quarterback. Everyone remembers the team was awful and in the third week, the Eagles hung 50 on them. The team was characterized with a prolific offense a defense mostly comprised of ghosts the opposing team could run through. It was a curious situation because coach Rod was introduced to us as a defense guru.

No matter. The Lions are 3-0. They head to Dallas next week. The Cowboys are playing the hated Redskins on Monday night so they will be on short rest. Matt Stafford returns to Texas where he (and Bobby Lane) went to high school. The Cowboys look very beatable. Few people would have dared predict the Lions would be undefeated going into the Monday night game v the Bears. This town is about to rock.
