Employee Prays For The Ford Family Every Night, Says They Made Her Life Possible

Every night before she goes to sleep, Glenda White of West Bloomfield says a simple prayer.

"I pray for the Ford family," she said. "They made it possible for me to raise my family, to buy my home, to live happily. When they prosper, we flourish."

It takes a certain kind of dedication as an employee to pray for the owners of your company every night, but it makes sense for White. The Fords aren't just the owners and founders of one of America's most storied auto companies.

It's not just a job. It's not a casual connection.

It's family.

White's dad retired after decades with Ford, her brother and two sisters were Ford workers, and now two of her four sons are Ford workers.

"Let's keep the tradition going," she said about what she told her children regarding working for Ford.

For her part, White has worked at Dearborn Truck for 37 years. She started after a short marriage and divorce left her at loose ends and needing a job immediately. "It just happened," she said of her job. "I was young, I fit in right away, the job just flowed with my life."

Putting in her time, she now has a plum job as a product auditor, one of six people on a team who randomly pick vehicles and go over them in minute detail, checking the interior, exterior and under body for defects and potential quality issues.

Nothing ends up in a customer's driveway until it's perfect. Every detail matters. Tiny defects most people wouldn't notice bring the ride right back to the factory for a fix. She makes sure nothing gets a pass.

It can be a tough job, but it definitely has perks. Her favorite part of the job? She drives home a different F-150 truck every night to test it on the road.

The King Ranch edition F-150 is her particular favorite. "The steering wheel is so soft, the quality is so smooth," she said. "It just has so many great features."
