Emergency Preparedness Training In Oakland County

WATERFORD (WWJ) - In light of the deadly tornadoes that have ravished parts of the country, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson wants to make sure residents know what to do in the event of a life threatening emergency.

"Citizen Preparedness Training" hosted by Oakland County Homeland Security takes place Saturday afternoon.

"We want residents to be able to plan ahead and know what it is they can do to help sustain themselves until the various government relief agencies can come on in and help take care of them," said Theodore Quisenberry, Manager of Oakland County Homeland Security.

Quisenberry  said training like this is important, because first responders aren't always available right away.

"We try to encourage people to have at least a 48-hour supply of food, water, medicines and that sort of stuff, and other items they will need.  Expect to go that long before help can come," Quisenberry explained.

The free sessions run from Saturday 10 a.m. til noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.,  at the Executive Office Building Conference Center on Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford.
