Earl Lloyd Headed To Michigan Sports Hall Of Fame
DETROIT (AP) — Earl Lloyd was the first black player in the NBA and has earned a spot in the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.
Lloyd is among the inductees announced Monday night. He broke the color barrier in 1950 with the Washington Capitols, finishing his career as a player and coach with the Detroit Pistons.
The 56th Michigan Sports Hall of Fame class also includes Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee and Detroiter George Allen and Detroit Tigers great Willie Hernandez.
The other inductees are Fred Arbanas, Ed Budde, Tom D'Eath, Eugene Lipscomb, Milt Pappas, Marcel Pronovost, Dan Roundfield, Ted Simmons, Ralph Simpson, Bob Strampe, Chet Walker, Alex Wojociehowicz, Chuck Bernard, Rex Cawley, Bob Chappius, Richie Jordan, Barbara Marchetti-DeShepper, Charlie Primas, George Acker and Bob Devaney.
