Doing Time Part 4: The Program

"Orange Is The New Black" is a hit Netflix series about women in prison. Some say it glorifies something that is actually a nightmare.

In this four-part series, WWJ's Jackie Paige talked with three women who served time … and they say there is nothing glamorous about doing time. Catch up on yesterday's story about Ivy HERE.

Catch up on Pam's story in part two HERE.

In part three, former inmate Cassie, a 30-year-old mother of two, claims — like Ivy in part one — that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. She's now staying on the straight and narrow and awaiting the release of her boyfriend, who was convicted of dealing narcotics.

In the final installment, we learn about Denise Harris, who runs a prison program focused on boosting back up women within two years of a prison release.

She said hundreds of women sign up for the classes when they're announced. "And right now, we can only take 25 at a time," she said.

Mentors are gathered through local churches and other programs.

The goal is to encourage women when they feel down, and give them the tools they need to make sure they don't end up back behind bars.

Cassie, Ivy and Pam all attended the prison fellowship.
