Detroit Riverside Boat Launch To Reopen
DETROIT (WWJ) - It's been 10 years since the Riverside Boat Launch has operated in Detroit. Budget restraints forced the closing of the popular family fishing spot. But after receiving help money from Mayor Bing and Detroit City Councils' budget amendments -- the Detroit Recreation Department is celebrating the grand re-opening of the renovated facility.
"We'll have new restrooms and a renovated office building, some launching docks and navigation lighting for those boaters," said Alicia Minter is Director of the Detroit Recreation Department.
"And we have some LED parking lot lights that have been put into the parking area and some new benches and drinking fountains, so they'll be able to enjoy while they're waiting to launch their boars," Minter told WWJ Newsradio 950.
The renovations also include new launch ramps and automated gate arms.
Minter said they anticipates that the launch will once again be a popular spot.
The boat launch will operate daily from 5 a.m. – midnight through Oct. 31. Launch permits are $10 daily ($8 senior), $50 weekly ($40 senior), and $150 monthly.
A re-opening ceremony was planned for Wednesday at 3 p.m..
