DETROIT (WWJ) The Detroit Police Department is denying a published report that Police Chief Ralph Godbee is resigning Wednesday afternoon.
Godbee remains out of town at a police chiefs' conference in Santa Monica, Calif. -- and still hasn't commented on an alleged affair with another officer that resulted in his 30-day suspension Wednesday.
The affair accusations came from Angelica Robinson, an internal affairs officer. Robinson, in an interview with a local TV station, said she went public after learning that Godbee was involved with another woman.
"He is a sex addict, he loves to have sex with all different women," Robinson said in the interview.
Robinson, who put a photo of herself with a gun in her mouth on Twitter after she said she discovered Godbee was cheating on her, is calling for him to resign. Godbee and his wife recently filed for divorce.
Former Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans, who was forced to resign in the midst of his own sex scandal in 2010, is inferring there's a double standard if Godbee faces only suspension.
The unmarried Evans posted this on Facebook: "Single man openly dates single woman = forced resignation. Married man has affair with single woman=promotion to Chief. Married man has another affair with married woman=30 day suspension."
In the meantime, Mayor Dave Bing's office issued a statement Wednesday saying the City's Human Resources Department will handle the investigation into Godbee to ensure there's no conflict of interest.
