--RB Jahvid Best was cleared of any post-concussion symptoms after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit against the Browns a week ago. He practiced Wednesday and Thursday but was held out of the game against the Patriots as a precaution.

--DE Kyle Vanden Bosch was held out of practice all week with a sore shoulder. The Lions said it was precautionary and he is expected to play in the season opener.

--OLB Bobby Carpenter is having an exceptional camp. He has pushed starter Justin Durant and forced defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham to use a four-man linebacker rotation. Carpenter, especially sound against the run, had seven tackles Saturday. His 18 tackles leads the team in the preseason.

--S Ricardo Silva, an undrafted rookie, is making a bid to make the roster. In limited action in three games, he has two interceptions and a fumble recovery. He is presently working as the fourth safety behind Louis Delmas, Amari Spievey and Erik Coleman. He's ahead of veterans John Wendling, Aaron Francisco and Michael Johnson.

--PK Jason Hanson, kicking 33- and 46-yard field goals Saturday, has all but won his camp battle with Dave Rayner. Hanson also placed two kickoffs at the goal line, forcing the Patriots to return them. Both times the Lions stopped them short of the 20.

--RB Aaron Brown, a long shot to make the team three weeks ago after veterans Mike Bell and Jerome Harrison were signed, has been the most productive back in camp. He is the team's leading receiver (10 catches, 109 yards).

--LT Jeff Backus, out three weeks with a torn pectoral muscle, started and played well on Saturday. His 160-game consecutive start streak does not appear in jeopardy.

--WR Titus Young (hamstring) made it through a full week of practice and saw his first game action Saturday. He had one catch for 19 yards.

--CB Alphonso Smith (foot) is expected to come off the non-football injury list this week.
