Detroit Lions Notes And Quotes 10-4-11

--The Lions had 63 total rushing yards Sunday. Jahvid Best had 19 yards on the first play from scrimmage and just 28 in his next 10 carries. Of their 18 first downs, only three came by the run. After the 19-yard run, they ran it nine times on first down for 23 total yards. Yet, when it was mentioned that the run game struggled, Schwartz said, "I disagree. I think we ran the ball pretty well. This was one of our better games running the football. We were good in short yardage and we were efficient. We were over 50 percent efficient." Pressed on what he meant by efficient, Schwartz snapped. "Good gracious, we don't need to (have) a panic attack because we haven't run the ball," he said. "With all due respect to Bo Schembechler, we can pass it."

---Defensive tackle Corey Williams had three encroachment penalties Sunday, but Schwartz gave him a pass because he liked the aggression. "I would rather have a couple more offside calls and a couple more sacks, than have less offside calls and less sacks," Schwartz said. "There's a balancing act there. We just have to make sure it's not hurting the team."

--Schwartz was talking Monday about wide receiver Calvin Johnson and his latest touchdown celebration where he tries to throw the football through the wall at the back of the end zone. "I wouldn't want to get in the way of his, spikes, I guess you can call them," Schwartz said. "I knew (Tigers ace Justin) Verlander can heat it up but Calvin might be able to give him a run for his money on that."

--Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was hit with a roughing the passer penalty in the fourth quarter when he got his forearm up into quarterback Tony Romo's facemask. "(Romo) had his head lowered and he was throwing the ball. It's tough but you can't get your hands near his face," Schwartz said.
