Detroit Issues A "Call To Action"
DETROIT (WWJ) - It's being called a "Call to Action" in the city of Detroit.
Detroit Mayor Dave Bing says he's very concerned about the impact of the state cutting cash assistance to 40,000 people, many of them Detroiters.
"Could not come at a worse time, as far as we're concerned," Bing said. "A lot of these people do live in Detroit. We're trying to curtail as much negative activity as we possibly can, but when folks can't pay rent, they can't eat, they can't clothe their children, you know, negative things happen, so we gotta come to the table to help where we can."
The mayor says Monday's "Call to Action" at Cobo Center will bring city agencies like Workforce Development and the Dept. of Human Services together with community organizations to see what can be done.
