Dearborn Police Credit Alert Public With Suspect's Arrest
DEARBORN (WWJ) Dearborn Police credit a quick thinking local man, who contacted police after hearing suspicious comments by a man patronizing his business.
After a description and location was given police located Roger Stockham, who was wearing a black ski mask, driving near a Dearborn Mosque.
Stockham was stopped and arrested without incident. Further investigation revealed that Stockham had open intoxicants, spray-paint, and several "Class C" fireworks in his possession.
The quick response by Dearborn Officers averted a potentially dangerous situation as several hundred mourners were gathered at the Mosque for a funeral.
Stockham appeared to be operating alone and does not appear to be affiliated with any other organizations, at this time. Federal authorities were notified and are working in conjunction with the Dearborn Police Department on this investigation.
Dearborn Police Chief Haddad wanted to caution citizens to remain calm, but vigilant. "If something appears to be out of the ordinary, call the Police immediately." This incident epitomizes the "See Something / Say Something" philosophy.
The Chief directly attributes the actions of the local business owner with the police department's success in quickly and safely apprehending this potentially dangerous individual.
Roger Stockham, a 63-year-old California man, was arraigned Wednesday, January 26, 2011 on one count of Threat of Terrorism.
Bond has been set at $500,000.00 cash with the requirement of a GPS tether if bond is posted. A preliminary examination is scheduled for Friday, February 4, 2011 at 9:00 am before the Honorable Judge Mark Somers at the 19th District Court in Dearborn.
