Crews Complete First Phase Of Massive I-75 Reconstruction Project In Oakland County
TROY (WWJ) - Just in time for the holidays, crews have wrapped up the first phase of a 14-year project to modernize I-75 in Oakland County.
The Michigan Department of Transportation said Thursday that the first phase of segment one will be completed on schedule. Crews will have all lanes in both directions open, along with all ramps and bridges, by sunset on Friday, Dec. 16.
Segment one is a two-year, $90.8 million investment between Coolidge Highway and South Boulevard. Improvements include reconstructing pavement, replacing bridges and modernizing the Square Lake Road interchange.
Work in 2016, which started on August 15, focused on reconstructing the northbound lanes from Coolidge Highway to Squirrel Road, replacing the Squirrel Road overpass above I-75, and rebuilding the bridges that carry northbound I-75 over Adams and Square Lake roads.
During the winter months, crews will relocate to begin bridge foundation work at the Square Lake Road interchange that will be reconfigured in 2017. Any work during the early part of 2017 will not result in any lane or ramp closures.
