Council To Vote On Bing's Deficit Elimination Plan
DETROIT (WWJ) - The State Treasurer wants Detroit City Council's vote of approval on Mayor Dave Bing's five-year deficit elimination plan by July 31.
Bing's financial administrators met again with Council, Friday, to go over the plan that includes cuts and revenue generating ideas.
But, Council President Pro Tem Gary Brown says he's a no vote if the mayor doesn't agree to create a "revenue consensus committee," made up of administration and Council staff and a financial expert, to make sure the plan is followed.
"Because, quite frankly, over the last ten years we've done deficit elimination plans and they haven't worked. So, we want to make sure that the tools are there to monitor and get the amendments when money is not coming in," Brown said.
"The administration needs to send an amendment to tell us how they're going to cover that loss of revenue, instead of waiting until the year is over with, and then being $98 million in deficit," he said.
Council is scheduled to vote on Bing's five-year deficit elimination plan next Tuesday.
