Cops Holding Fundraiser For Injured Colleague
HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. - (WWJ) - A fundraiser is in the works for a part-time Highland Park police officer seriously injured in a weekend accident.
WWJ's City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas reports that the victim, 34-year-old Officer Kamin Bode, is in pretty bad shape and doesn't have health insurance. Bode has been unconscious ever since an alleged drunk driver slammed into her vehicle over the weekend. The mother of a pre-schooler and a teenager had been working two jobs just to make ends meet.
Highland Park Deputy Police Chief LaNesha Jones says "We're just basically trying to raise funds to ensure that her children have a wonderful holiday season, considering that it's been dampered with their mom being hospitalized. The whole department is so touched by this, and by it being this time of the year especially, it just takes an extra toll on us. She's not only our sister in blue, but she's our friend."
The fundraiser takes place on Dec. 28, 2011 at Malarky's Irish Bar & Grill in Westland. Tickets are $15.00 per person. For more information on the fundraiser, call (313) 852-7338.
John Galvin, who police say is an habitual offender, has been charged in the case.
