Computer Hacking Concerns On The Rise

DETROIT (WWJ) - A recent report from the software security firm McAfee has raised awareness about the potential for hacking of vital information about governments and businesses. Many local companies assist these entities in protecting valuable and sensitive data.

Secure-24, in Southfield, hosts critical information for many industries, including data for Wayne County. Brett Powers is their Chief Information Security Officer, and says that on a scale of 1 to 10, his customer's concerns are on the rise.

"I would say it's about a seven, I think things are becoming more publicized, I think we are hearing more from our customers, digging a little deeper into our controls, trying to understand what we do to protect our data, compared to a few years ago when we were around a five or six," said Powers.

Powers doesn't believe the most recent hacking reports are more serious than reports of the past, but says his company is constantly striving for ways to ensure the protection of data.

"We have put together a layered security system, both around physical security and information security to be able to handle those threats. So, it's something that every company needs to think of, it's definitely on our customers mind, and so we walked them through what we do to protect their data," said Powers.

Powers says their security systems have built-in protections so data does not get corrupted.
