Club Invites Young Professionals To "Come Play Detroit!"

DETROIT (WWJ) - How do you keep young people from leaving Metro Detroit? One man says the key is: sports.

Twenty-right-year-old Justin Jacobs says he came up with the idea of Come Play Detroit after he watched his once athletic friends go from their desks at work to their couches each evening.

No exercise.  No stimulation.  No fun.

Nearly 18 months ago he posted on his web page: "Does anyone want to play some sports?"

More than 100 people showed up to play, and Come Play Detroit was born.

Today, more than 3,000 people participate in baseball, basketball, touch football and one of the most popular offerings: kickball.

Costs range from $30 to $100 for ten weeks of play depending on the sport. Teams meet at several Metro Area locations with new teams starting on Belle Isle this summer.

Jacobs said he's watched as personal, professional and romantic relationships grow thanks to Come Play Detroit.  "I think a place where young professionals
can go to participate in an activity is vital to keeping talent in the Detroit area," said Jacobs.

"I'm living my dream," he said.
