Cold Case Murder Suspect Heading For Re-Trial

TOLEDO (WWJ) - An Ohio man accused of kidnapping, raping and killing a schoolgirl and dumping her body in a Michigan field more than four decades ago will go on trial for a second time.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Paul Snider reports on the trial for the suspect in the murder case.

The first trial of Robert Bowman ended last week with jurors in Toledo being unable to reach a unanimous verdict. The prosecutor pressed for a re-trial and a Lucas County judge set a date of October 11.

Police had long suspected the now-75 year-old Bowman but he wasn't arrested until 2008, when DNA evidence tied him to the crime.

Bowman is accused of snatching the 14 year-old girl as she got off a school bus, holding her captive in his basement, killing her and dumping her body in southern Michigan six weeks after she disappeared.
