Cobo Expansion To Be Completed For Auto Show 2013
DETROIT (WWJ) - It's less than a month to go before the auto show and Cobo is getting ready for its close up. WWJ's Marie Osborne checked in on the center's $320 million makeover.
Cobo General Manager Tom Connors says the new loading dock and the attached air curtain is just one of the features that make Cobo more energy efficient.
Included is more parking and a complete rehab of the arena.
Connors says the fixes at Cobo will make for a better show: "You'll see the rigging, trusses and lighting but if you've been around the rock-n-roll business - that's what it looks like," said Connors. "Ironically, a lot of the people who put these (sets) together come from those backgrounds."
The 150,000 square foot renovations won't be finished until next year but already the completed fixes are paying off.
"Business is building - we're adding five-six new shows in 2012 and hope to have signed up in a matter of weeks and we are getting committments from every sector that we are trying to bring to Detroit," said Connors.
The three-year renovation of Cobo Center will be completed by Auto Show 2013.
