Detroit Zoo closing, events and festivals canceled, due to winter weather
The extreme cold and winter weather forecasts for Friday through Sunday have resulted in some venue closings and event cancellations in Metro Detroit.
Here are the notices that CBS News Detroit has received. This list will be updated as needed.
Brrmingham Blast
The Brrmingham Blast winter festival that was scheduled for Saturday has been canceled "due to the extreme temperature conditions forecast for this Saturday," festival officials said. "We look forward to the adventure of zip-lining in Downtown Birmingham next year."
Detroit Zoo
The Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Center will be closed to visitors Friday and Saturday "due to the forecast of extreme cold temperatures across the metro Detroit region."
The plan is to reopen the venues to visitors during regular daytime hours Sunday, weather permitting.
Those who have purchased tickets to visit the zoo during the days that are closed can use the ticket for a future visit.
Oak Park Winterfest
The Oak Park Winterfest, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, has been rescheduled for Feb. 15, Oak Park city manager Erik Tungate said. The reschedule is because of extreme weather conditions expected this weekend.
Potter Park Zoo
The Potter Park Zoo in Lansing said it will be closed Friday and Saturday.
Recycle Ann Arbor
Recycle Ann Arbor says its Drop Off Site facility will close early on Saturday, ending service at 4 p.m. that day. Regular service hours will resume Tuesday.
Rink at Royal Oak
The Rink at Royal Oak will be closed Friday and Saturday bercause of the extreme cold. Tentative plans are to reopen Sunday. Updates will be posted on the rink's website.
River Raisin National Battlefield Park
The River Raisin National Battlefield Park's visitor center will be closed during the day Friday. Announcements about the family movie night will be on the City of Monroe Parks and Recreation Facebook page.
Washtenaw County
All "non-essential" operations at Washtenaw County government offices are suspended for Friday because of the weather.
Waterford Parks and Recreation
The Waterford Parks and Recreation Department has canceled all daytime and evening programs Friday; along with the youth basketball games scheduled for Saturday.
