Chrysler Unveils Limited Edition Dodge Challenger

Mopar '10 Challenger

Just in time for the Woordward Dream Cruise, Dodge is introducting a new special edition of it's Challenger muscle car.

The Mopar '10 Challenger is the first time that Chrysler has built a vehicle with a theme based on the company's Mopar parts division.

"At Mopar, we want to leverage our heritage, but also expand the brand," says Mopar CEO Pietro Gorlier.

Modifications include what Dodge CEO Ralph Gilles calls a "sinister appearance," which includes a "brilliant black" paint job, with a choice of three accent accent colors; blue, red or silver.

The Mopar 10 Challenger alos has 20-inch black wheels, a stiffened chassis, and a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8.  Owners will get a certificate which includes the date that their limited edition vehicle was built.

"This is going to be 500 units, limited edition, and we expect that all of the customers that are enthusiasts for the Mopar brand will be very interested," Gorlier told WWJ AutoBeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert.

This comes at a time when the aftermarket remains very hot, and Chrysler is trying to build up the Mopar brand.

"We started thinking about doing something special together with Dodge, celeberating our heritage," says Gorlier.   "We found Challenger was the perfect vehicle to display not only our heritage, but our technical capability."

The vehicle makes its public debut later this month at a special gala celebration at the Walter P. Chrylser Museum.  The Mopar 10 will be in dealerships next month, with a sticker price starting at $38,000.

"Despite the recent tough times that we went through, there are a lot of enthusiasts who still are looking for a personalized car," says Gorlier.
