Business Owner Questions Depth Of Tax Break
DETROIT (WWJ) - Business owners may be pleased they'll be getting a break on the state tax front. But did Governor Snyder's push to change the Michigan business tax code, in order to keep and grow business interest in the state, go far enough?
Metro-area business operator Ruth Mannschreck, owner of Shoreline Strategies, wants to see the state think more long-term. She hopes the state treats new businesses attracted by the tax breaks better than the Michigan movie industry was treated.
"I've very disappointed in how they handled the movie industry, those people came here with best intentions and we showed them how short term we think. That's a terrible precedent to set, I think," says Mannschreck. "We need to set something and run with it for more than a just a year. That was terribly unfair, to the people that came here to do business with us and we sent them packing."
