Boy Drowns While Swimming At Lansing-area Park

HOLT (WWJ) - Authorities say a boy has drowned in a pond at a Lansing-area park that wasn't marked for swimming. The Lansing State Journal reports Kaaiwan McDonald of Lansing drowned Saturday while swimming in the pond at Valhalla Park, near Holt in Ingham County.

Witnesses heard him call for help and a 55-year-old bystander dove into the water to attempt a rescue but couldn't find him.

The boy was pulled from the lake after about an hour. Authorities said he was either 12 or 14 years old, based on conflicting information from his parents.
