Big Sean Gives Advice To Detroit Students

DETROIT (WWJ) Detroit native and award-winning rapper Big Sean knows what it's like to be a kid trying to make it in Detroit.

Big Sean just wrapped-up another successful concert at home where he took the stage with other major hitters, Drake and Nicki Minaj.

Before that, the Cass Tech graduate handed out sack packs to hundreds of Detroit Public School students and he told me his main message to kids is to be yourself and get help if you need it . . . especially from your parents.

"You know I definitely have lost faith, I've been depressed, I've been frustrated trying to make things happen, trying to work it out and, you now, if it wasn't for my dad or especially my mom knowing to  introduce to me different ways of thinking like the laws of attraction or manifesting your goals and writing them down (I wouldn't be where I am)," Big Sean said.

Big Sean says once he changed his way of thinking, things started to change for the best. He was able to rise from freestyle rapping in the neighborhood to selling out shows around the world.

The 25-year old also started a foundation to help in the education, health, safety of school age youth called the Sean Anderson Foundation.

So, how's Big Sean doing now? MLive says, "He has a shoe deal with Adidas, support from West, a song with West and Jay-Z called 'Clique,' and marketability worldwide because of his taste in style and strong relationships with the music industry's major players."
